Robots and hair pretties

Those are two things I would have never thought I would say in the same sentence. 

Remember the Ahoy shorts I made for TheoLeo in the robot print?



I made him a matching shirt. The front has an embroidery of a robot and the back has the word robot with the second "o" being a robot. The back design is the biggest embroidery I have done so far. My machine does 650 stitches per minute and this sucker had a stitching time of 49 minutes. Quick, someone do the math and figure out the number of stitches.  Since I am not fast at changing colors and get distracted easily, I bet this thing took about 1 1/2 hours to complete! Then I still had to sew the shirt together! It's super cute though and I am glad I made it for him.

On a somewhat related subject, I mailed this package out to him on Friday and he got it on Monday.  The impressive part is that he lives 1800 miles away near the coast.  I am in land locked Kansas!  Kudos to the Post office.  Now, I have a long standing feud with the Post office (which is a story for another day), so when I say kudos, you know I mean it.  :)


While the embroidery machine was up and running, I made a bunch of hair pretties for the girls. My girlies are in love!

Embroidery- GG Embroidery Designs
Hair stitchies- they are basically embroidered felt sandwiches. A clip gets sandwiched in between. I didn't buy the clip covers designs, and I didn't have enough small clips so some of them are a little long.



the back. The watermelon has the clip properly inserted into the felt sandwich because it fit. The peace sign heart is not sandwiched, but hot glued since I didn't have smaller clips.



I will be buying more of these since my girlies love them so much! I actually had to break up fights over who got what. Then I had to promise to make more....

China Doll

I made little Addi B a china doll outfit.  It turned out very very cute.  This outfit took many hours on my new embroidery machine but it was so worth it!  I hope she likes it!

The skirt is a double layer with 2 designs on the side panels and china doll ribbon down the seams.  The top layer is hemmed in red bias tape.  The bottom layer is red twill with a ruffle hem.

Upcycles

I recently finished 2 shirts for TheoLeo.  I havent mailed them yet because I have a few other things in the works for him now and I didn't want to ship 2 packages to him.  Do you know who expensive it is to ship baby clothes.  Seriously ridiculous.  So I am trying to fill up a flat rate envelope!

Pattern: Ottobre Design 4/2004
can't remember the #, but it is a size 86 with a wide seam allowance since it is such a slim fitting shirt.



And I added some stripes to the sleeves just for something different. But when I had the bulk of several pieces of fabric on the sleeve it didn't want to hem. So I got a bright idea to hem it with a band of ribbing. But now they are kinda puffy and girly. So says my hubby. But what does he know about sleeves. All that just to say that I tried something new....



This one is my favorite. As soon as I saw this men's size XXL shirt at Goodwill I scooped it up. It makes me giggle.

Pimpicuffs!

I made the girls some Pimpicuffs with my new embroidery machine and they are a hit!  I made 4 thinking each girl could have one and then I could give the other 2 to friends with young girls.  Right!  That didn't even come close to happening.  The girls snatched those suckers up and haven't let go since.  Not sure what Pimpicuffs translates to.....  But in my terms they are super cute cuff bracelets with very cute embroidery on them!

You will notice that some of them are taller than others. I just went to town cutting and some of them ended up different sizes. And little Nin's have 2 sets of snaps versus the one of KK's. I guess KK has bigger wrists so she didn't need 2.



They came home from school that day to report that all their friends want Pimpicuffs now!

Kindergardens

I signed up to participate in the Kindergarden challenge over at the Inadvertent Farmer.  The idea is to get kids in the garden!

Here is my intro!

My name is Kelly and I live in the city, at the top of the hill (above Target!).  I grow food and herbs in the summer, but not much beyond that.  I have 2 children who like to "help" in the garden!  My girls already love to be outside in the garden with me, but they don't really like to particpate in the food growing. They much prefer just to make mud pies. I allotted them room this year for a fairy garden, but so far none of the flowers have germinated. I did end up buying some flats at a garden sale last weekend, so we are going to cheat a little bit!  My plan was to allow them to plant whatever flowers they wanted, add some fairy necessities and let the girls tend to that part of the garden.

So far this year I have planted: peas (lots and lots of peas), lettuce, carrots, onions, squash and cucumbers.  Tomatoes, okra, zuchinni and peppers are going out this weekend.  I also have basil, chives and cilantro trying to grow inside.  As for flowers, I planted kiss me over the garden gate, hyssup and a salvia called Salvador purple.  We also have strawberry crowns, but they aren't looking so great.  And finally, there is one potato growing like crazy in the compost pile.  I am trying to figure out where to plant him!

Summer sewing, costumes and gifts

Since I have not been able to successfully figure out how to stop the kids from growing, I started on some summer clothes.  I think the authorities tend to frown upon kids running around naked.  Just guessing though.  ;) 

Since Nin is the one in desperate need of clothes that fit, I started with hers.

I even made these with pajama jean material from JoAnn's.  I just had to buy it, more because it cracked me up then I thought I would actually use it.  But I did and Nin loves it!  She declared these to be very comfy shorts.  So I may just have to go buy more.

Then I made her an outfit from the new Ottobre magazine. I pulled out coordinating fabrics, matching appliques and ric rac and painstakingly cut and sewed this outfit. And then she promptly rips a hole in the knee the first time she wore it. So maybe I overdramatized the putting together part.....  Now I need to make the leggings shorter or detatch them from the skirt altogether.

On to the shorts! I have probably mentioned my love for the short pattern in 3/2009 Otto before. The Bert and Ahoy shorts. I pulled the pattern out and made a few, okay maybe a few more than a few.

On to the costume portion. My sister needed poodle skirts for her and Baby Avie to go to a theme wedding. I am in love with Avie's. It is the cutest little skirt and fits her perfect!
