Upcycles

Even though it is Stash Game month over at Sewing Mamas, and upcycles don't earn me very many points, I still found myself cutting out multiple skirts and dresses this weekend.  I cleaned out some of my t-shirt stash, used a few scraps and made up some items to sell.  I consider that a win-win!

The skirts are just simple circle skirts with a yoga waist attached to the top.  Circle skirts are very fun and twirly and loved by my girls.

Upcycles

I love upcycling!!  I frequent Goodwill looking for cool t shirts!  You can quit laughing at me now!  Here are some recent finds.

Upcycles

I love to shop at Goodwill for unique t-shirts and such.  I go to Goodwill to find clothes that I can cut up and turn into other clothes!  Here are a few shirts I made for Theo Leo out of Goodwill finds!

Pattern:  Ottobre Design 1/2010 #6 size 86.

First up is the Mystery Machine!  This was an adult size L t-shirt and I used part of the front and back, and the tag from the original shirt.



Next is a Halloween shirt. This was an adult XL t-shirt.



And a motorcycle shirt. I really just love the colors of this one! It was originally a baby romper. I picked off the pocket from the front and added it to the shirt. Then I used part of the front to create the stripes on the sleeves.



I really liked the romper and almost didn't cut into it. But I don't know of any babies who are that size..



And finally, this is not an upcycle as I had this fabric in my stash since Theo Leo was a small baby!

Upcycles

I recently finished 2 shirts for TheoLeo.  I havent mailed them yet because I have a few other things in the works for him now and I didn't want to ship 2 packages to him.  Do you know who expensive it is to ship baby clothes.  Seriously ridiculous.  So I am trying to fill up a flat rate envelope!

Pattern: Ottobre Design 4/2004
can't remember the #, but it is a size 86 with a wide seam allowance since it is such a slim fitting shirt.



And I added some stripes to the sleeves just for something different. But when I had the bulk of several pieces of fabric on the sleeve it didn't want to hem. So I got a bright idea to hem it with a band of ribbing. But now they are kinda puffy and girly. So says my hubby. But what does he know about sleeves. All that just to say that I tried something new....



This one is my favorite. As soon as I saw this men's size XXL shirt at Goodwill I scooped it up. It makes me giggle.

I finished up 3 more dresses this past weekend! I also had to go buy a few more t shirts since I have been making so many dresses! These 3 will be in the shop hopefully tomorrow.

My brother started it! A size 18mo. May fit up to a size 24 mo depending on the child. Exact measurements will be posted in the store!

Blowpop dress

I recently completed a Blowpop dress for the shop and I thought I would post the pics leading up to the dress so that I could submit it as a contest entry over at Lil Blue Boo!

Remember this contest.... (P.S. I previously entered the mermaid dress!)




So here we go!

First I squished up a piece of plain ol white fabric



Then I took these 2 fabric spray paints, pink and purple, a must in a house of girls!



Then I set about spraying in random patterns





Then I spread the fabric back out flat





Then I just kind of sprayed randomly until some of the areas were more filled in



When I was done it looked like this



After it was dry I washed it and dryed it and ironed it. Then I set to work using an Old Navy t-shirt and additional scraps of fabric. I used this dyed fabric on the sleeves only so I have a bunch more to use on something else.





When the girls are bored they sometimes ask if they can dye fabric. So I get the paints and dye out and cover the table in trash bags and they dye up a bunch of fabric. Then I just let it dry on the air hockey table and I use it eventually in a project! It keeps them busy for hours!

4 Sabrina's

How do you like that clever title? After I made Baby Avie a fishy Sabrina, I had a request to make 2 more. They are for sisters and are mostly matchy matchy, except for the sleeves.

A size 104 which is about a 4.



and a size 116 which is about a 6.



Then since I was having so much fun I decided to make a couple more. Once I find a pattern that I really like, I let it stay on the cutting table. (ie. the dining room table) Just like my Antonia. So expect to see more of these ladies.

Shirts from Goodwill that I love to upcycle.

This is a size 134, or about an 8, with a hood. The shirt part of the dress is made from a t-shirt and the sleeves, which are tiny lime green hearts are also from a shirt.





And a Spongebob shirt turned into a dress. This is also a size 4. So if you have a Spongebob fan, this will be in the shop.

Stash Game 2011

I know I am a little behind in posting pictures and that's because, well, I am behind in taking the pictures.  The only place that is inside where I have enough natural light is in the living room in front of the sliding glass doors.  On the carpet.  It is dreadfully cold outside, not to mention, I still have snow covering the back deck.  It was a tropically warm and balmy 1 degree this morning when I was taking pictures.  But I digress.....

I have sewn something everyday so far.  It helped that I had a couple snow days and was trapped at home briefly last week! 

More shirts for the shop.  You know, the shop where I currently have Valentine shirts for sale....  Wink wink, hint hint. 

Farbenmix Imke made from an upcycled t-shirt.  This is a size 4/5.  It does need to be hemmed, so don't look too close yet.



Another Antonia in an upcycled Fairly Odd Parents t-shirt. This is the smallest they come in a size 2.



This dress will hopefully meet several contest entries. It's stash game, so I get points, the white panels on the skirt are hand dyed by me so I can enter it in the Lil Blue Boo challenge, and I want to ship it off to the swap I entered. Multi- purpose clothing!!

Up next are some grocery bags that are made from fabric. I made these as testers because I am thinking about selling them this summer. Made from fabric I have had for ages and the pattern is from Keyka Lou. I love them! Especially because you can wad them up and tuck them into your purse.



I also made Baby Theo Leo and Baby Chey Chey (my cousin's son) some matching t-shirts. I got this monster truck fabric at Girl Charlee, but it was a little too white and black. So I color blocked the fronts and added some red sleeves.

Size 98 for Chey Chey and size 80 for Theo Leo.



Look who came to visit Aunt Kelly!!! So I made him model a shirt for me.
