Summer sewing, costumes and gifts

Since I have not been able to successfully figure out how to stop the kids from growing, I started on some summer clothes.  I think the authorities tend to frown upon kids running around naked.  Just guessing though.  ;)

Since Nin is the one in desperate need of clothes that fit, I started with hers.

Pattern:
Kwik sew guachos #3441

I even made these with pajama jean material from JoAnn's.  I just had to buy it, more because it cracked me up then I thought I would actually use it.  But I did and Nin loves it!  She declared these to be very comfy shorts.  So I may just have to go buy more.

Then I made her an outfit from the new Ottobre magazine. I pulled out coordinating fabrics, matching appliques and ric rac and painstakingly cut and sewed this outfit. And then she promptly rips a hole in the knee the first time she wore it. So maybe I overdramatized the putting together part.....  Now I need to make the leggings shorter or detatch them from the skirt altogether.

Pattern:
Otto mag 3/2011
#19-shirt
#20- skirted leggings
both in size 134
the appliques on the shirt are from Holland Fabric House

On to the shorts! I have probably mentioned my love for the short pattern in 3/2009 Otto before. The Bert and Ahoy shorts. I pulled the pattern out and made a few, okay maybe a few more than a few.

Pattern:
Otto magazine 3/2009
#14 Ahoy for the smaller kids
#23 Bert for the bigger kids

The gift part of today's post is a diaper bag. Another Kati Cupcake bag, but without the grommets and sash. I couldn't find grommets to match, so I left them off.

This bag has 13 pockets!

On to the costume portion. My sister needed poodle skirts for her and Baby Avie to go to a theme wedding. I am in love with Avie's. It is the cutest little skirt and fits her perfect!

A new purse for me!

Like I need a new purse, but I wanted to test this pattern out before using it to make a diaper bag for my sister in law.  You may remember that I started out making handbags and as a result I have all my own patterns that I sketched out, so buying a purse pattern is very difficult for me!  But I liked this bag, so I went for it.  It is the Kati Cupcake, My Favorite Bag pattern.  I am disappointed in the pattern overall.  There were a couple errors and the bag is similar to one I already make for diaper bags.  This has grommets and a tie, but other than that the dimensions are similar and the outside pockets are similar.  That will teach me to buy a purse pattern!

At any rate, I think this would be perfect for a diaper bag because it has 12 pockets!!  And it is the size of a small country.  I bet I could Avie in this purse also.

All fabrics came from Hobby Lobby and again, the pattern is a Kati Cupcake pattern.

Stash Game 2011

I know I am a little behind in posting pictures and that's because, well, I am behind in taking the pictures.  The only place that is inside where I have enough natural light is in the living room in front of the sliding glass doors.  On the carpet.  It is dreadfully cold outside, not to mention, I still have snow covering the back deck.  It was a tropically warm and balmy 1 degree this morning when I was taking pictures.  But I digress.....

I have sewn something everyday so far.  It helped that I had a couple snow days and was trapped at home briefly last week!

More shirts for the shop.  You know, the shop where I currently have Valentine shirts for sale....  Wink wink, hint hint.

Farbenmix Imke made from an upcycled t-shirt.  This is a size 4/5.  It does need to be hemmed, so don't look too close yet.

Another Antonia in an upcycled Fairly Odd Parents t-shirt. This is the smallest they come in a size 2.

This dress will hopefully meet several contest entries. It's stash game, so I get points, the white panels on the skirt are hand dyed by me so I can enter it in the Lil Blue Boo challenge, and I want to ship it off to the swap I entered. Multi- purpose clothing!!

Old Navy shirt on top, Studio Tantrum Redondo skirt on the bottom

Up next are some grocery bags that are made from fabric. I made these as testers because I am thinking about selling them this summer. Made from fabric I have had for ages and the pattern is from Keyka Lou. I love them! Especially because you can wad them up and tuck them into your purse.

I also made Baby Theo Leo and Baby Chey Chey (my cousin's son) some matching t-shirts. I got this monster truck fabric at Girl Charlee, but it was a little too white and black. So I color blocked the fronts and added some red sleeves.

Pattern: Ottobre Design 3/2006
I believe it's number 13, but don't quote me.
Size 98 for Chey Chey and size 80 for Theo Leo.

Look who came to visit Aunt Kelly!!! So I made him model a shirt for me.
