Like what I did there! Ha! Now that the embroidery machine is back up and running I have been making appliques on most of the clothes I have made. I have to catch up for lost time!!
I made baby Avie another tunic from Ottobre 1/2012. Since this one was to have an applique and I somehow got it in my mind that I wanted it to be tiered, nothing else would work. I initially looked for a dress from a recent Ottobre that was already tiered. Either it was too late at night or my mind was playing tricks on me since I couldn't seem to find the dress I knew I saw earlier. I even remember the colors!! Since my mind was already set on a tiered, envelope neck dress, I just modified the tunic pattern I just made her. Which, honestly, would have been easier to do that then spend an hour searching all my old Ottobre's.
I really love this little dress! It is very sweet and girly and fun. And, I even made matching leggings. They are capri length with ruffly FOE on the bottom edge that is a perfect coordinate to the top! Seeing how I have like 9 million yards of FOE on hand at all times, I was sure to find something to match!
Since I can't make Avie something without making TheoRama something, I kept the green out to test out the new gator alphabet applique that I got as a gift at Planet Applique. Very cute indeed!
These little appliques are a great way to use up scraps. For example, the green and white stripe above is from a Target baby blanket that I bought about 3 years ago. Now, it's probably going to take 50 more years for me to use up all my scraps, but we all have to start somewhere!

Upcycles
Even though it is Stash Game month over at Sewing Mamas, and upcycles don't earn me very many points, I still found myself cutting out multiple skirts and dresses this weekend. I cleaned out some of my t-shirt stash, used a few scraps and made up some items to sell. I consider that a win-win!
The skirts are just simple circle skirts with a yoga waist attached to the top. Circle skirts are very fun and twirly and loved by my girls.
Who doesn't love M&M's?
Cute little Ooga's!!
I only got around to the one dress before I got distracted by shiny things....
Freshly squeezed lemonade, doesn't that sound yummy!

Clothes for Mama
Every now and again I make myself some clothes. But it's harder to get a good fit since most patterns are drafted for women who are shorter than myself and who don't have ridiculously long torso's like myself. It takes extra work to make things fit and because the kids grow out of clothes so fast, most of what I make is for them.
But I recently sat down to make a few things for myself during Stash Game.
A dress that is maybe a hair too big in the waist. And because I don't want to look like a tank, I have to wear a belt. This pattern originally was 2 seperate items. A tank dress underneath with a tunic on top. That way, you have the coverage of the dress underneath at both the chest and the bottom hem. You would have thought that somewhere along the way between looking over the pattern and actually tracing it out, I would have noticed that it was 2 garments, but nope. That slipped past me. When I went to cut it out I couldn't figure out why I had so many pieces. Finally, it dawned on me! Little slow, little slow. Since I didn't have matching fabric for the under dress I just cut out the front bodice out of the same fabric I was using for the tunic and added it to the seams for the tunic top. Built in cami! Remember what I said earlier about patterns being drafted for short women, well I had to add 6 inches in length to the hem and even with that, the dress hits me just at the knee. At 5'9 I am not freakishly tall by any means.
This is from Ottobre 2/2010. I made it with the super soft brushed cotton lycra from Girl Charlee! And I am now noticing how well I blend into my living room wall...

And a cowl neck shirt. I love cowl necks! This is from Vogue 8634.

This was a sneaky little fabric waster! Because I was using a directional print it took over 2 yards to make this!

Bottom's Up!
This post is dedicated to all the bottom's I have made lately.
A skirt for Nin. In this shiny pink glittery denim she picked out at JoAnn's. I even made yards and yards of bias tape for the hems!
Pattern:
Ottobre 1/2012
#36 in size 140

Fun little Farbenmix tag

Poor baby Nin. Momma made her stand outside in the cold for 5 seconds to take a picture...

Theo Rama got some shorts in a cute dino camo twill.

cargo pockets on the side for all the things toddlers like to collect. Like rocks, bugs, sticks, paper, crayons...... Many of which I have found in my washer.

BTW- those shorts are one of my most favorite things I have made for him. I know I say that about everything! But this time I mean it!
And skirted leggings for Nin. If she would quit growing I could quit making her things and focus on other kids for awhile. I made her a pair of these last summer and she loved them. In fact, she wore a hole in the knee of the leggings the very first day. But they got a lot of use last summer. Nin likes to wear skirts but she also likes to play hard so attached leggings are great for her!
Ottobre 3/2011 #20. Making 4 takes practically the same amount of time as making 1....

That's enough talk about bottom's around here.

Valentine dresses
I am a little behind in posting the dresses I made the girls for Valentine's Day. I started out making 2 of them in the Farbenmix Henrika pattern which makes a very adorable dress. Once I had them finished, KK took one look at hers and decided that it wasn't pink enough to work for Valentine's Day. Oy. Why do I put up with such nonsense!
I may spoil the girls a tad bit because I made her another. It pretty much uses the same fabrics as the first dress but I guess has enough pink in it.
Nin's dress (which had enough pink!)

KK's dress (the blue under the skirt is actually another skirt that she had on underneath)

And the "not pink enough" dress, which she has actually worn. Just not on Valentine's Day.

A custom order
The reason I had to get my embroidery machine working is because I got a custom order for a baby outfit that included a tutu and a onesie with the little girls initial on it.
What a fun order! I cut 3.5 yards of tulle to make a little tutu. Aack, it was so cute!

Then I started with the onesie once I got my machine running! I wanted a dark pink oneise to match the tulle I used in the skirt. But I couldn't find one, so I just decided to dye one. I bought 2 just in case!!

Then came the zebra applique.

And I also made 2 bows to match, because I just couldn't stop myself!! I ended up using the headband bow because the little girl doesn't have a lot of hair!

What a fun project!
